May Open Weekend

We had a brilliant open weekend in May...

The Saturday was a lovely day and busy, but not overly 'heaving’. Both the ground level and raised tracks were kept very busy and those manning everything from the entrance gate, refreshments, rides etc never really had much of a breathing space. Everywhere you looked there were trains moving and a couple of traction engines to greet visitors on arrival.  At the day's end, all said it had been highly successful, but not a 'madhouse' scenario!

We even had two Welsh Dragons: one hauling trains and one entertaining passengers on the station!  The one in costume was a ’star’.

Sunday dawned with another glorious day. This time however, the visitors absolutely poured in! For several hours, queues stretched well back for both raised and ground level rides. The locos worked well and hard, together with the drivers and helpers busy for hours non stop.

Several 'old hand' club members said they had never seen queues quite like it. The public were still coming in well past 3pm.

Not only that, a number of visitors passing through the gate said that they were serious in wanting to join the club, and I shall be most surprised if we don't pick up at least two to three serious new members.

So thanks to every single person who contributed of their time and effort to make the two days the undoubted success.

The next evening meeting is on Tuesday June 20th, at 7.30pm at Hady.
Alan Freebury will be presenting:  Building 'Gowrie'
Best wishes,
